That's definitely true, however you need to get tissues that haven't been bleached to get their whiteness and ones without moisturisers added. 
 
Don't use Kimwipes - they are very hard and you risk scratching the coatings off older lenses (as these tend to be quite soft).

I agree. We just use the cheap ones that you can get at a supermarket. 
 
This tip was provided to me by Werner Willi (a microscope fix-it expert) who only uses lens tissues for the inside bits of a microscope that most of us shouldn't be touching anyway.
